Do’s and Don’ts During IVF
Going through IVF can be both hopeful and intense. Knowing what helps — and what to avoid — can make the process smoother and support the best possible outcome. Here’s a practical guide to help you take care of yourself during your cycle.
What to Do
1. Eat nourishing, balanced meals
Focus on whole foods: lean protein, leafy greens, whole grains, and healthy fats. Stay well hydrated with plenty of water.
2. Follow your medication schedule exactly
Take all injections and medications on time. Use alarms, apps, or a printed schedule to stay on track.
3. Prioritize rest and gentle movement
Aim for 7–8 hours of sleep each night. Light activity like walking is good, unless advised otherwise.
4. Keep all monitoring appointments
Blood tests and ultrasounds help track your response. Speak up about any pain, bloating, nausea, or other symptoms — no matter how small.
5. Manage stress in small, doable ways
Breathing exercises, journaling, prayer, or short mindfulness sessions can help you stay grounded.
6. Stay connected
Lean on your partner, a trusted friend, or a counselor. Emotional support can make a real difference.
What to Avoid
1. No smoking, alcohol, or recreational drugs
These can harm egg quality, sperm health, and implantation. Also avoid any supplements not approved by your doctor.
2. Skip intense physical activity
After egg retrieval (OPU) and embryo transfer (ET), avoid heavy lifting, vigorous workouts, and extended time in hot environments (like saunas or long sun exposure).
3. Don’t change or skip meds on your own
Never double a dose or stop a medication without checking with your fertility team — even if you feel fine.
4. Limit unnecessary travel
Especially during stimulation and the days following embryo transfer, try to minimize long-distance travel or stressful trips.
5. Avoid comparison
Every body responds differently to IVF. Don’t let someone else’s numbers or timeline shake your confidence in your own process.
